Medical intervention for strangulation survivors

The medical assessment of strangulation survivors is essential to their immediate and ongoing physical health. Ideally a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) would perform the SKIT exam, but any nurse or health professional can, as well.

The SKIT was designed to be similar to sexual assault kits (SAFE) so should be straight forward for providers. SKITs are available in 30 facilities in Oregon (see "SKIT Facilities" page) with more coming soon.
